We live in a society that loves achievement, qualifications, status and success.  Many people work themselves extremely hard to get there – ignoring what their bodies and minds are telling them.  But what’s the point of success, a great career – if you’re always stressed, overwhelmed, don’t see much of your family and friends (or are grumpy and tired when you do see them)?

Sadly, life balance and self-care are often seen as “soft” requirements – something high achievers don’t (or shouldn’t) need.  We get the message we should just be able to soldier on through illness and stress. We are told that if we take a holiday, go on a city break, have a bubble bath or sleep-in on Sundays – all will be well again.  After all, a successful person should have this under control and too much self-care is a sign of weakness or perhaps selfish or indulgent.

 

Well as a coach and personal development consultant I know that isn’t the case.  I look at the whole person, the whole life n context. I know that without self-care and life balance, life can be pretty miserable and lack joy and substance.

There are lots of self help books and articles around in bookstores, magazines and online.  I know because I’m a sucker for them.  I’ve read hundreds of books on work/life balance, emotional intelligence; how to be amore productive; motivation; time management and loads of other topics. There are also lots of training courses and I’ve also been on a fair few of those too.

I wanted to help myself.

The problem was I often took this information and tried to make sense of it without putting it into the context of my life or really understanding what I was trying to address.

Consequently, I knew lots of techniques but I wasn’t getting the best out of them.  I also found I was actually skipping on past and ignoring some of the exercises because they were uncomfortable, I didn’t understand the value or I just wasn’t sure if this was the right time and circumstances to implement them.

I now see that problem with many of my clients.  They know something is wrong or not working for them, but can’t really work out what it is or what they can do about it.

It’s really hard to be accountable to yourself when you are the one who makes the rules!

That’s why I’ve developed this unique and comprehensive coaching programme.  It’s a way for you to gain in three specific areas:

  1. Understand what each coaching tool can do for you
  2. Learn how to apply it to your circumstances
  3. Benefit from sharing experience and knowledge with others

Here’s how it works. 

  • Each session will be focused on a specific coaching tool
  • I will take you through a full description and the purpose of each tool
  • We will discuss how best it fits your needs at this time
  • We will share examples with each other
  • You’ll take the tool home to work on
  • The following week we discuss outcomes from completing the tool

At the end of the program you will have gained:

  • Understanding of your own balance and self care needs
  • Valuable insight into managing those needs
  • Tools for future use in other areas of your life

Each course is limited to 10 people in order to give each member time and space to have their own areas of concern addressed.  Experience shows that working in a group gives an added level of involvement and creates a great environment for learning.  It is important that groups are not too big or too small to get the optimum value from them.

You also need to understand just how important it is to commit to a programme of this kind.  Because the tools are carefully chosen to address balance and self-care needs, we need to complete each one in the right order.  To do this I will be asking for a consistent level of commitment from participants.
